Frequently asked questions

What is AI+ Local?
AI+ Local measures which local businesses the major AI assistants recommend, by city, area, and category, and tracks how it changes over time. It is the measurement layer for generative engine optimization, the AI-era counterpart to search engine optimization.
What is generative engine optimization (GEO)?
The practice of understanding and improving how generative AI models recommend you. Where SEO was about ranking in a list of links, GEO is about whether an assistant names you in its answer at all.
Which AI assistants do you track?
ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, and Grok, each in its live, web-connected mode, the same one a customer gets.
How often is the data updated?
The public pages refresh weekly. A Pro Report tracks a single business and refreshes daily, sometimes more often.
Do you ask each question only once?
No. Because a model's answer drifts from one call to the next, we run each question across roughly ten to twenty queries per assistant and average them, so the result reflects the aggregate rather than a single, noisy response. The full process is in the methodology.
Can a business pay to rank higher?
No. Placement comes from the assistants' outputs alone. No business can pay to be listed, ranked, or ranked more favorably, and a Pro Report never changes a business's public ranking.
How do you keep the data clean?
Every name an assistant returns is resolved to a single real-world business, so variants like 'Hiller' and 'Hiller Plumbing LLC' count once. Names that resolve to no verifiable entity, the model's hallucinations, are discarded, so only confirmed businesses enter the record.
Is a ranking an endorsement?
No. The rankings describe what the AI assistants said in response to our questions at a point in time. They are observations of AI output, not reviews, endorsements, or guarantees of a business's quality.
The information about my business looks wrong. Can you fix it?
The rankings reflect what the assistants say, not data we enter by hand, so the surest fix is usually in the public sources the assistants cite. Tell us through support and we will look into it.
Why is an area marked as early or thin?
When the assistants have not yet named enough distinct businesses in an area, we mark it as early rather than pad it with weak data.
What is the Pro Report?
The paid report for a single business: its rank in every area it serves, its rankings by intent, its share of voice against rivals, the sources to win, and where to focus next. See the Pro Report for the full breakdown.
Do I need a subscription, and how many businesses can I track?
Yes, a subscription unlocks the Pro Report. One subscription can include up to 10 Pro Reports, so you can track up to 10 individual businesses. To start, see For Businesses, or choose a plan on pricing.
